We interrupt this baseball game to bring you a message about Christine Quinn

The New York City mayor's race intruded on a minor-league baseball game this weekend, briefly.

Among the groups welcomed on the scoreboard at the Brooklyn Cyclones game this weekend was one dedicated to the defeat of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Here's a picture of that scoreboard, flashing the name of the group Defeat Christine Quinn. The group usually protests outside of Quinn's events, holding signs and yelling about the extension of term limits and the closure of St. Vincent's, and voicing a general dislike for her working relationship with the mayor.

The photo was posted on Facebook and pointed out to me by a reader.

Another reader emailed to tell me "UFT is a major sponsor of the cyclones." The United Federation of Teachers recently endorsed one Quinn's main rivals, former city comptroller Bill Thompson.

For what it's worth, the U.F.T. has had a tailgate party for Thompson at the stadium and the U.F.T. president Michael Mulgrew seems very much at home there.
