BREAKING NEWS: NYC Carriage Horses Officially Move OUT of Traffic TOMORROW, MARCH 1
We are thrilled to tell you that tomorrow, Friday, March 1st, NYC carriage horses are finally being moved OUT of traffic and into three locations inside car-free Central Park---history is officially being made after some delays for construction which is now complete! Starting tomorrow horses will no longer be forced to maneuver alongside dangerous traffic 9 hours every day. The former hack line in 59th Street traffic is GONE for good!
Activism works! All your phone calls, letters, testimony at hearings and attendance at rallies and protests have paid off -- we are finally seeing real progress in action for carriage horses, and this is just the beginning!
This is a victory for the long-suffering carriage horses who have always been forced to stand and maneuver in 59th Street traffic day and night, contending with car exhaust, blaring horns, construction and lack of shade or protection from the elements. Finally, the horses will get some relief! The carriage drivers fiercely fought this change and even filed three failed lawsuits against the City to try to prevent it from happening. But it has happened--because of all of YOU!
NYCLASS RALLY TO CELEBRATE HORSES MOVING INTO CENTRAL PARK, Sunday, March 3rd, 1pm.
Join NYCLASS at a rally as we celebrate HISTORY being made for horses on Sunday, March 3 at 1pm at the 6th Avenue entrance to Central Park at 59th St. at one of the new "hack line" locations out of traffic. We will bring a few celebratory posters but please feel free to bring homemade signs expressing your joy that finally some progress is being made for horses, with more to come!
HELP US PASS THE CARRIAGE HORSE HEAT RELIEF BILL
This is just ONE small change to protect the horses, and we are working on many others, including passing a bill that was recently introduced in the City Council to change the inadequate temperature laws for the carriage horses. Please CALL your NYC Council member and ask them to pass Intro 1425 before summer! Find your Council Member's info here: https://council.nyc.gov/districts/
2019 is the year major progress is being made to end carriage horse abuse, but we can only continue to gain victories for the horses and all animals with your continued donations.
