This weekend's Long Island tournament is one of many similar events that take place all over the world, all throughout the year. The sharks are "caught" but fight, spending minutes to hours in agony as they pull and thrash, attempting to escape. Once near the boat, a giant metal hook is driven through the live shark to help pull it aboard. The agony doesn't end here, as the sharks are often beaten and/or stabbed to subdue it. Many survive all the way to the dock for weighing.
After all of this, the shark is cut into pieces and tossed in the trash. So we're speaking up and fighting back!
