New Yorkers care about wildlife and will not stand for the killing of Staten Island's deer. Hunting is neither a long-term nor a humane way to manage the population of deer in Staten Island. The most humane and effective ways to manage deer populations are through habitat protection, improved roadways, deterrence methods, and public awareness. Additionally, immunocontraceptives are an easily implemented solution already proven to manage deer populations on Fire Island. We call on the leaders of NYC to use only humane solutions like these in order to manage deer populations and to embrace a vision for co-existing with all wildlife in NYC.
