This is huge news! There is legislation before the New York City Council that will be real progress in protecting carriage horses. We know it isn't perfect, but it will go a long way to helping the carriage horses.
This law will protect horses by:
- Removing horses from busy, dangerous city streets by requiring that they remain in Central Park
- Providing horses with new protections to ensure their safety and good health, like limiting exposure to the elements and providing additional rest
- Protecting horses from being sold for slaughter
