2ND AD LAUNCHED TARGETING QUINN

Anybody But Quinn Campaign Highlights Her Failure to Keep St. Vincent’s Hospital Open

New York, NY – (April 24, 2013) Today, the political committee New York City is Not for Sale 2013 (NYC Not 4 Sale) announced it will begin running the 2nd television advertisement of its Anybody But Quinn campaign launched two weeks ago. The committee, co-founded by Local 1180 President Arthur Cheliotes, New Yorkers for Clean Livable and Safe Streets’ (NYCLASS) and Hugo Neu Corporation CEO Wendy Kelman Neu will be running the ad on networks starting today as part of its current media buy.

“The closing of St. Vincent’s hospital leaves a community out in the cold,” Arthur Cheliotes, President of Local 1180 said. “Today’s new ad calls attention to a community where residents have nowhere to go in the event of an emergency or health crisis. Christine Quinn played an integral role in letting St. Vincent’s disappear and we cannot support a mayor who would let her donors dictate development at the sacrifice of our communities.”

“As an organization we have seen time and time again how Christine Quinn treats animals and it is clear that she is just as cruel to voters,” Allie Feldman, Spokeswoman for NYCLASS said. “We shouldn't be surprised to learn that Quinn shut down a hospital with the same callous disregard exhibited when she overturned a law mandating animal shelters in the Bronx and Queens, leaving animals with nowhere to go. Today thousands of New Yorkers also have nowhere to go. We are gravely concerned as to which integral New York City institution will go next if she is elected Mayor. We urge New Yorkers to consider how many more hospitals will be lost to Quinn’s friends in real estate.”

“For several decades my sister Jackie and I called Chelsea home. In the past three years we have heard several stories of our friends finding themselves too far from comprehensive medical care,” Wendy Kelman Neu, Hugo Neu Corporation CEO said. “Letting a hospital close takes away a huge, integral piece of a community’s security and livelihood. The loss of St. Vincent’s affects an estimated 300,000 people. Quinn’s support for the zoning change which allowed developers to destroy a hospital for luxury housing is a disgrace. New Yorkers everywhere need to hear this story so that they can know just what Quinn for Mayor could mean.”

The second television ad, “Nowhere to Go”, produced by The Advance Group, begins running today and discusses Quinn’s backroom dealings in her failure to keep the vital St. Vincent’s hospital open. The ad focuses on Quinn’s real estate backers who clouded her judgment and ultimately bought the land St. Vincent’s rested on, leaving thousands of New Yorker’s without a community hospital. Future television ads are in the works other advertising campaigns will be announced in the coming days.

NYC is Not 4 Sale was founded on April 8, 2013 and is registered with the NYC Campaign Finance Board and the New York State Board of Elections. For the past two weeks NYCN4S has been making independent expenditures in a multi-media grassroots campaign to ensure that the next mayor is anybody but Christine Quinn, as she does not truly uphold the values of progressive New Yorkers. The campaign will continue to feature television, print and street advertisements as well as a robust and creative social media campaign.

More About New York City is Not for Sale:

New York City is Not For Sale 2013 (NYCN4S 2013) was founded by three prominent New Yorkers and organizations: Local1180 President Arthur Cheliotes, NYCLASS, and Political Activist Wendy Kelman Neu. With backgrounds that span the labor, real estate and business industries the founders came together with a mission to impact the outcome of the mayor’s race – with a specific goal of ensuring mayoral candidate Quinn is not elected. The Political Committee was formed around the founders’ combined opinion that New York City will be better off without Speaker Quinn as Mayor. Her record on living wage, paid sick leave, term limits, lack of support for animal rights and animal welfare, combined with her reputation for siding with the rich and powerful to advance her own political aspirations, makes it clear that as mayor, Quinn would only continue to appease special interests that do not have the well-being of all New Yorkers in mind. In order to get their message out NYCN4S 2013 began funding independent expenditures in the New York City Mayoral race to launch a multimedia campaign that seeks to inform voters of Speaker Quinn’s background and encourages them to vote for any candidate but her.
