The recent news of a New York City carriage horse's death has drawn strong responses from animal organizations and celebrity advocates like Lea Michele.

Only two weeks later, a second carriage horse collapsed in the street. Now animal advocate and long-time friend of PETA, Pamela Anderson, is calling for a ban on horse-drawn carriages in New York City. According to Contact Music, the actress has joined Lea Michele in supporting a petition asking Mayor Bloomberg to put an end to horse carriages in the city. The online petition, created by New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets, calls for the horse carriages to be replaced with environmentally-friendly replicas of classic cars proposed in city council bill, Intro 86.

Anderson wrote on her Facebook page, "For the second time in less than two weeks, a carriage horse has collapsed on a Manhattan street. Horses do not belong in a congested, urban setting where they are constantly breathing exhaust and sharing the streets with cars, buses and taxis."

She, along with Michele, has urged fans to sign the petition and help get Intro 86 passed. Michele also recently wrote a letter to Mayor Bloomberg in support of the ban.
