The New York City Council only has three meetings left this year, and we need to ensure our proposal to help the horses is voted on. Our proposed bill ensures several measures to improve the quality of life and safety for the carriage horses, including:
- An end to work in heavily trafficked areas like Times Square;
- Moving all carriage rides into Central Park
- Bigger stall sizes;
- An end to horses being sent to slaughter when they can no longer pull carriages; and,
- A mandatory retirement age that corresponds with the horses serving in the NYPD Mounted Unit
As it stands today, we have the support of enough Council Members to pass our bill.
However, Melissa Mark-Viverito, the Speaker of the City Council, will not give us a vote. With only three Stated council meetings left this year, we urge you to allow our bill to come to a vote this year.
We have had enough of this city's politicians and their empty promises.
The time for action is now.
