Statement on trial of Saverio Colarusso, the horse carriage driver charged with animal cruelty

The trial of Saverio Colarusso, the horse carriage driver charged with animal cruelty, was postponed today. In response, NYCLASS Executive Director Allie Feldman issued the following statement:

"We call on Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law. Carriage driver Saverio Colarusso allegedly forcing his horse to work despite a painful leg infection is just one example of the cruelty inherent in the horse carriage trade. We've seen time and time again instances of animal cruelty, horses involved in accidents or being forced to work in extreme heat and humidity. We're hopeful justice will be served in this case."
