New York City’s Mayoral Candidates Rollover for Animal Welfare Issues!

Animals are a huge part of our New York culture. To many, they are just like children and they are certainly just as important. This upcoming mayoral election should focus on Animal Welfare issues from the promotion of kill free shelters to the ban on forcing horses into hauling carriages to making declawing cats a thing of the past.

Animals are a huge part of our New York culture. To many, they are just like children and they are certainly just as important. This upcoming mayoral election should focus on Animal Welfare issues from the promotion of kill free shelters to the ban on forcing horses into hauling carriages to making declawing cats a thing of the past.

That’s why NYCLASS hosted NYC’s first ever Mayoral Forum on Animal Rights on May 6th! Events like this one keep Animal Rights out of the background and in the spotlight as the hot issues of the election.

Most of the major mayoral candidates participated: Bill de Blasio, Bill Thompson, John Liu, Sal Albanese, Erick Salgado and John Catsimatidis. Since then, Anthony Weiner joined the race, seeking a bid for the Democratic nomination to run for mayor. He, like all the other candidates, need to keep Animal Welfare at the forefront of the debate — that’s why NYCLASS needs your help to keep animal rights as the issues that will decide this campaign.

Any chance you get, ask the mayoral candidates where they stand on horse drawn carriages, AC&C animal shelter reform and other humane legislation.

NYCLASS (New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets) is a non-profit animal advocacy organization committed to ending the inhumane practices of the NYC carriage horse industry. NYCLASS advocates for retiring the carriage horses to sanctuary, while modernizing the current industry with a clean and safe alternative to this outdated tradition — the 21st Century Horseless Carriage. Founded in 2008 by a coalition of prominent animal lovers and business leaders, NYCLASS has grown to over 97,000 supporters with activist chapters in all five boroughs.
