ALL OF NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES BACKED BY NYCLASS OR NYCLASS ANIMAL PROTECTION WIN PRIMARIES

Winning Candidates are Committed to Meaningful Change for Horse Carriage Industry

New York, NY – All seventeen of the New York City Council candidates backed by NYCLASS (New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets) or supported by NYCLASS Animal Protection through an independent expenditure won Tuesday’s primary elections. NYCLASS and NYCLASS Animal Protection supported these candidates because of their deep commitment to pursuing meaningful change for New York City’s horse carriage industry.

"Voters last night demonstrated their clear support for leaders committed to improving the quality of life for New York's carriage horses, and we hope to see that same enthusiasm in November,” said Edita Birnkrant, Executive Director of NYCLASS. “NYCLASS and NYCLASS Animal Protection congratulate the candidates we’ve backed on this important victory.”

In the six districts where it operated independent expenditures, NYCLASS Animal Protection knocked on 18,500 doors, made 62,000 phone calls, sent over 10,000 text messages and sent campaign mailers to over 100,000 voters.

Following last night’s primary election, which marked the end of its first round of independent expenditures, NYCLASS Animal Protection is considering filing a second round of independent expenditures for the general election on November 7th.
