Heartbreaking video of a carriage horse collapsing in midtown yesterday prompted renewed calls from animal rights activists to outlaw the industry.
The amateur video shows the shiny coated brown equine collapsing on W. 60th St. near Broadway about 6 p.m. The horse got back on its feet about 15 minutes later, a witness said, though it’s not clear what ultimately happened to the animal.
“This really encapsulates the inhumanity of it all,” said Carly Knudson, executive director of the anti-buggy group New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets.
The incident was the second in less than two weeks to draw the ire of horse lovers. A gorgeous equine named Charlie keeled over and died in midtown Oct. 23.
