NYCLASS STATEMENT ON COLLAPSE OF CARRIAGE HORSE

New York, NY – At approximately 4:00pm this afternoon, a horse driving a carriage collapsed at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue. Carly Knudson, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets has released the following statement;

“Regardless of the circumstances around today’s collapse, this is another clear example of why New York City is just not a safe place for horses to live. NYCLASS urges the immediate passing of Intro 86A which will allow for the protection of jobs as well as the tourism industry, while ending the abuse of these carriage horses once and for all. During this busy season, horses are worked harder than ever. We can’t afford to wait any longer.”

NYCLASS continues to work to pass Intro. 86A, legislation that calls for a phase-out of horse carriages in New York City and replacing them with the 21st Century "Horseless Carriage", electric-powered vehicles styled and constructed to replicate turn of the century cars.

New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets is a 501(c)4 non-profit animal welfare and advocacy organization committed to improving the quality of life for residents and animals of the City of New York. For more information, visit NYCLASS.org
