Horse Victories!
Andy King is our new City Council Member-Elect from the Bronx, and State Senator Diane Savino has been re-elected to represent Staten Island and South Brooklyn. Both of these candidates want to see an end to NYC carriage horse abuse, and they're part of the key towards getting it done.
In the last seven days, we've seen people come together for the common good in countless ways -- rescue efforts, recovery efforts, relief efforts -- and yesterday, to elect our future humane leaders. So many of you stood in line for hours to cast your ballots, amid recovery efforts and general craziness just a week after Sandy walloped our state. So many of you have shown selfless generosity to friends, neighbors and family in the past week.
Both of these things are testaments to what it means to be American and an animal advocate; what makes our nation great.
We are kicking off the next election cycle with TWO notches on our belt. It's a great start, since we know that the path to victory for the carriage horses lies in building an animal rights voting bloc and electing more pro-animal rights candidates like Council Member-Elect King and State Senator Savino. A sincere thanks to all the voters, and a special thanks to all the volunteers who knocked on doors and phone banked. You made this happen. You are all Horse Heroes.
Today, we celebrate these two wins, knowing that tomorrow we will work to build a pro-animal coalition of elected officials.
Together, we will rebuild a better and more humane New York!
Sincerely,
