PAMELA ANDERSON, LIV TYLER, AND RUSSELL SIMMONS TO JOIN TOGETHER TO HELP NYCLASS BAN CARRIAGE HORSES IN NYC AT
A NIGHT OF NEW YORK CLASS GALA ON OCTOBER 23rd
NEW YORK, NY – October 8, 2012 – New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets (NYCLASS) will host “A Night of New York Class” Gala on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the Edison Ballroom in Manhattan (240 West 47th Street). The Gala will help raise awareness of NYCLASS’s fight against the horse carriage industry with event proceeds benefiting NYCLASS’s efforts to push for an alternative to New York’s horse carriages.
Award-winning actresses, Kathy Najimy and Kristen Johnston will be honored for their efforts in the fight against animal cruelty. Actress, Pamela Anderson will be the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening and notable attendees include Liv Tyler, Russell Simmons, Patti Smyth, John McEnroe, Ron Delsener, John Slattery, Talia Balsam, Kaki West, Dina Manzo, Chuck & Ellen Scarborough and Miss USA, Olivia Culpo. In addition, there will be live performances headlined by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts.
"We couldn't be more excited about the upcoming gala with this incredible host committee and our honorees, Kathy Najimy and Kristen Johnston," said Allie Feldman, Lead Organizer of NYCLASS. "The event will give us an opportunity to connect our amazing supporters who share a common purpose – to end the abusive carriage horse industry in New York and replace it with an eco-friendly, animal-friendly and job-producing tourism attraction."
NYCLASS’s fight against the horse carriage industry has been in motion since 2008. The organization continues to work to pass Intro. 86A, legislation that calls for a phase-out and safe retirement of horse carriages in New York City and replacing them with the 21st Century "Horseless Carriage", electric-powered vehicles styled and constructed to replicate turn of the century cars. The 14 accidents involving horse carriages this year alone have resulted in a majority of the city council now in favor of Intro 86A.
NYCLASS stands strongly on their four pillars of philosophy: 1) The industry’s use of horses is clearly inhumane and an impractical remnant of a bygone era 2) The quality of life issues created by the use of horse-drawn carriages 3) The industry’s lack of economic development and revenue enhancing abilities for New York City 4) The use of horse-drawn carriages is unsafe for the tourists, the public and the horses.
Tickets to “A Night of New York Class” Gala start at $500. Tables and VIP tickets range from $5,000 to $10,000. For more information please call 212-626-6991, email Info@nyclass.org, or visit www.nyclass.org/gala.
